I began working in new media while I was in film school in 1992. As soon as I graduated, I moved to San Francisco to begin participant-observation in the City's growing new media and cyber scene. I decided to work alongside the people I was studying, both as a practical matter of supporting myself in the field, and as a way to deepen my understanding of them as co-workers and professionals, as well as neighbors and community members.
